What was the first book you ever wrote and what inspired you?
Well I started 4 different books in different genre’s actually but the first one finished was Unhinge Me. It is my first and only book published so far. I look forward to writing the other ones but for now I have decided to finish Caleb and Alex’s story in the sequel to Unhinge Me. I was inspired by a youtube video, believe it or not, of Benedict Cumberbatch simply reading Ode to Nightingale. His voice was so sexy I couldn’t get over it. Soon I had a sexy scenario in my head and Caleb and Alex were born.
Can you tell us about your work including titles and share your amazon links?
Unhinge Me is available on Amazon on Kindle and in paperback – http://www.amazon.com/Unhinge-Me-Ann-Montgomery/dp/1496040643/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405901697&sr=8-1&keywords=Unhinge+Me
What drew you in to the romance genre?
Well mostly that I am a reader of romance! I liked to read almost, if not just as much, as I like to write. Finding a romance book that gives you a good story with amazing characters and romance all together is amazing. I wanted to do that too.
Is romance your favorite genre to read as well as write?
I read ALL genres but nothing beats a good romance. It’s just such a happy and easy read for me. No matter what else I am reading, I always have to stick a good romance in between. In the same way, I love to write all kinda of genres too. The first book I ever started writing, and am still in the middle of, is a historical romance. I also have a fantasy book I am writing.
Can you tell me something about yourself that may surprise your readers?
I am a psychology major. In between writing I am going to school. I just got my first degree and have already started my second. Psychology and romance writing don’t exactly go together. But I love people and stories so I suppose in that way, they can be very similar.
Are you excited to be a part of the upcoming Ropin Romance event?
VERY! I have never done a blog takeover before so I am both super excited and nervous about it 🙂
What do you do to help with writers block?
I usually talk it out with either my husband, who is my biggest supporter and best friend (and editor and cover designer) or my other best friend who is also a writer. Anything in my life from problems I have to writers block, it is always helped by talking it out. Even if it’s to the dog. Saying it out loud always puts things into perspective for me. I also make a point of writing whatever I am inspired about at that moment, even if it means I write out of order and have to cut and paste later.
If you had to choose three words to describe what type of writer you are what would they be?
Passionate, inspired, and adventurous
What is your author pen name and do you have more than one?
Ann Montgomery is my pen name. Deciding to use a pen name was a hard decision for me but I love that it gives each genre I write in its own identity. I also feel like I get to know my readers better when I use a pen name.
If you had to pick a favorite author who would it be?
It is so hard to choose a favorite. Jude Deveraux was the first author I truly fell in love with. Her earlier stuff was especially awesome and is what made me love romance writing.
Many of the readers who will be seeing this interview and participating in the takeover will be new fans. If you had to describe your writing style and books in a single sentence what would it be?
My husband calls it classy smut which I like because I appreciate a little bit of both of those 😉
