J. A Melville

What was the first book you ever wrote and what inspired you?
I wrote short stories about 25 years ago, also poetry but I started my first book in 2010. I didn’t finish it until 2013 though as I was asked to write something else and that book ended up being my first published book.

Can you tell us about your work including titles and share your amazon links?
I wrote my first erotica novel after being asked by a friend to write her something after she’d read Fifty Shades of Grey. I wrote Natasha’s Awakening which has a lot of sex I admit since that’s what my friend wanted. I was asked about writing the story from the lead male’s point of view and I wrote Taming Eric next. I then finished the kids/teen book I’d started in 2010, then abandoned before writing the first book in the Passion series. Passion After Dark, Passion By Control, Passion Follows Pain, Passion And Fire and I’m nearly finished writing Passion For Hire, book 5 in the series. There’s one more to go, the 6th book before the series with my vampires is finished.

What drew you in to the romance genre?
I used to write short erotic stories for ladies I worked with years ago. I love to write romance, although it’s erotica or romantic erotica that I write. I love to see a couple meet, go through all that happens to them before they end up together and of course I love plenty of hot and steamy sex.

Is romance your favorite genre to read as well as write?
I used to read a lot of horror stories but definitely since I read Fifty Shades of Grey, romance and erotic romance are my favourite genres.

Can you tell me something about yourself that may surprise your readers?
I love caligraphy and used to do some advertising posters for friends of mine and their shop years ago. I also really enjoy wiring up all the powerpoints in a house as I’ve done ours and ones for clients of my partner Roger before. I like things like that as they are quite interesting.

Are you excited to be a part of the upcoming Ropin Romance event?
I am. I’ve always been a bit shy so anything that draws attention to me, makes me nervous but after having only recently been part of a Paranormal event, I discovered I loved it and had so much fun so I’m looking forward to the Ropin Romance. It will be great.

What do you to to help with writers block?
I haven’t really suffered from writer’s block yet which is just as well. I’ve written 8 books in the last year so fortunately it’s not really been a problem for me. I do find if one book is giving me problems with the storyline, I’ll swap to one of the other books I’m writing.

If you had to choose three words to describe what type of writer you are what would they be?
Nervous, enthusiastic, hopeful. I’m enthusiastic about writing, nervous about if they’re any good and hopeful that some people might like them.

What is your author pen name and do you have more than one?
I write erotica under J. A Melville and the one childrens/teen book is under Jacqueline A Melville.

If you had to pick a favorite author who would it be?
That’s a difficult question given how many wonderful authors there are but I have two. I can’t pick one over the other, I love both of them. I will always buy their books. They are Georgie Summer and Rachael Orman.

Since many of the readers that will be seeing this interview and participating in the takeover will be new fans. If you had to describe your writing style and books in a single sentence what would it be?
Alpha men who meet the women who challenge them and plenty of very hot and steamy sex.
