Louann Carroll

What was the first book you ever wrote and what inspired you?
Journeys, The Adventure of Leaf, was published in 1992 by Galde Press. It is a children’s book about death and dying. During the fall, Leaf and Twig become separated only to discover come spring that death is just the passing of a season.

I lost my dad when I was five and wanted to write an allegory about death and dying. Fortunately, the first house I submitted the manuscript to published it.

Can you tell us about your work including titles and share your Amazon links?
I am drawn to sci-fi and horror as long as it is peppered with romance. Right now, I am in the process of finishing the Gemini series and rewriting the novel, Innocent Blood.

Gemini Rising is currently available (see link below.) The novel is an apocalyptic romance that I absolutely loved writing. It is filled with Native American lore, archaeology and sci-fi suspense that will have you spilling your wine all over the place. Well, if not that, I guarantee the chocolate you’re eating will be gone sooner than you’d like. OK, OK, the celery sticks.

Book two in the Gemini series, The Light and the Flame will be out in October, 2014. Trust me, after you read book one you will have to read book two. I am halfway through book three as we speak, err, write.

A Shadow of Time is a horror novel filled with paranormal romance. It is about multiple dimensions converging at one point in time. Kellyn O’Brien is our heroine and the reader will wonder:

Will Kellyn survive?
Will her son survive?
Will love survive?

You will have to read the book to find out.

A Shadow of Time has a prequel coming out through Crescent Moon Press entitled Shadowland. I have taken one of the characters from A Shadow of Time (Leanore) and presented her with some pretty scary (and romantic) challenges.

What drew you in to the romance genre?
What is life without a little romance? I started reading Kathleen Woodiwiss many, many years ago. She rocks romance totally.

Is romance your favorite genre to read as well as write?
Yes, as long as it has a little sci-fi or horror in it. I like to write books I can research because I love to learn new things. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, archaeologist, geologist, or believe it or not, a physicist. I had to become a writer where I am all those things.

Can you tell me something about yourself that may surprise your readers?
I have Crohn’s disease which is a debilitating autoimmune disorder. Generally, the disease is labeled minor, moderate and severe. I have a severe case and every six weeks I go into the hospital for an infusion that will, hopefully, keep the disease in check. I am very vocal about Crohn’s and blog often. Many young people are struck down in the prime of their life, so I have dedicated my ‘other’ life to getting the word out for a cure.

Are you excited to be a part of the upcoming Ropin Romance event?
Yes, I am! Maer Wilson invited me and I’m so happy to take part. Thank you.

What do you do to help with writers block?
Discipline. I sit in front of the computer even if I don’t write anything for the same hour(s) (if possible) every day. I might just doodle, but I’m there. Eventually the words come.

If you had to choose three words to describe what type of writer you are what would they be?
Emotive, creative and passionate.

What is your author pen name and do you have more than one?
I am just Louann Carroll. I like it that way.

If you had to pick a favorite author who would it be?
Kathleen Woodiwiss
Stephen King
Dean Koontz

I know I have three, but I’m mathematically challenged.

Many of the readers that will be seeing this interview and participating in the takeover will be new fans. If you had to describe your writing style and books in a single sentence what would it be?
Well, you had to ask me something hard. Let me see…
Emotive, inspirational and sometimes shocking, Carroll’s novels paint a vivid picture of tempestuous worlds colliding with romance, passion, and horror, leaving her readers fulfilled, yet gasping for more.
