The Multi Genre, Multi Day Themed Event Interview – T.K. Lawyer

Here is my author interview with T.K. Lawyer for The Multi Genre, Multi Day Themed Event. We will be highlighting her The Guardian League Series which currently consists of Jasper, Centurion and Apollo so make sure to check out this amazing series today!

What made you choose to write in the romance genre?
Love is exciting and everyone craves a bit of romance in their life.  I think that’s why romance is such a popular genre and comes in many different sub-genres as a result of people’s preferences, flavors and creative ideas.  With romance, you can address all kinds of real issues that occur when getting to know someone or from the actual trials and errors of being in a relationship.  Some subjects that no one wants to discuss but has experienced.  You can also address taboo subjects in romances and readers can experience for themselves how that type of relationship may or may not work and if they like that type of subject.

How many books do you currently have out and which one would you recommend new readers start with?
I have four books published, currently.  Three with the Guardian League Series and my first short story book, Angels and Diamonds.
I would recommend a new reader start with  Angels and Diamonds, which I specifically wrote for readers who haven’t read my books yet but want a taste of my writing.  Angels and Diamonds features seven stories- each with an Angel and a Diamond in it.  It’s a fun, short read.  I would suggest they start with that book, first, to see if they like my style.

Do you enjoy reading romance books as much as you like to write them?
I like reading much more often than I like writing because there’s a lot of work involved with writing.  But it also depends on my mood because sometimes I’m just itching to write a scene and the words just flow out of me onto the keyboard and it’s truly wonderful and fun.

If you could co-write a new romance book with any other author who would you choose and why?
This is a tough one for me because I like a lot of authors.  I think I would like working with Eve Langlais.  She has a funny sense of humor and she has great ideas.  I think we could combine our strengths and create something wonderful for our readers.

How do you think you have grown as an author from the time when you first started until now?
I have learned a lot on my own and within the writing community.  As an author, you are always learning new ways to market and advertise yourself and your books because this is the life blood of your business.  When I first started, I didn’t have a clue what I got myself into but I knew I had to write so I embraced anything that came my way.  It’s been a few years now and I’m happy for the continued experience.

If you had to describe the life of an author in three words what would you choose?
Marketing, Writing, Editing

Do you have any recent literary news that you would like to share with us?
I am working on finishing up my self-edits for my fourth book, Aeron, which is a phenomenal book!  Once it’s done, I’ll be submitting it to the Publisher for consideration.  I will also return to my edits for Nightfall, my first wolf shifter book, which is currently out of print but has a contract to publish.  Nightfall is a really unique shifter novel and should be out later this year.  Keep an eye out for it.  You’ll love it!

How long on average does it take you from start to finish to release a new book?
I’m a bit slow because I edit as I write.  I also work a full time day job so I only get a chance to write after hours or on weekends when I have the time.  I also won’t write when I am not in the mood because it won’t be enjoyable and I will likely write stuff I will need to re-write or edit thoroughly so it’s just better if I wait until the mood strikes so I can jot down great scene, instead.  The average time it takes me to finish a 90k book is usually a little more than a year.

What book or books do you plan on promoting during your romance themed day takeover?
My Guardian League Series and my short story book, Angels and Diamonds.  If you love hot, protective Angels, I am the author for you.  You need to try one of my books!

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice when it came to being an author what would you say and why?
Start earlier.  If I had started my writing career in my 20’s, I would’ve had a bunch more books out there and be much wiser than I am now with all the knowledge I would’ve accumulated.  I think it’s great when young women know they want to write and they start their adventures at an early age.
